Nazareth Hospital President to Receive National Diversity Council Pennsylvania LGBTQ+ Leadership Award

Northeast Philadelphia — (June 18, 2020) Nazareth Hospital President Michael Magro, DO, MBA, FACOI (pronouns: they, them, their), will receive the 2020 Pennsylvania LGBTQ+ Leadership Award from the National Diversity Council (NDC) on Wednesday, August 19, at the Pennsylvania Diversity Council's Virtual LGBTQ+ Unity Summit.

Dr. Magro, an active member of the LGBTQ community, was nominated by one of their peers at Nazareth Hospital for their leadership role in developing a Diversity and Inclusion Council, in which hospital colleagues identify and address barriers to inclusion for both patients and colleagues. The diverse council members include staff representing areas such as Spiritual Care, Nursing and other departments.

Nazareth's Diversity and Inclusion Council is just one example of Dr. Magro's leadership. They have been a committed advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and joined the Board of Directors of William Way LGBT Community Center in January 2019. Dr. Magro is currently the Treasurer of the Board of Directors, chairs their Finance Committee and serves as Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee.

"I am honored and humbled to receive this award and cannot thank my coworkers and staff enough for all they do to promote diversity and inclusion at Nazareth Hospital," said Dr. Magro. "We are proud of the Council's role in facilitating understanding and dialogue in service to our values of justice and reverence for each person."

The LGBT+ Leadership Award is reserved for individuals that serve as role models within the LGBT+ community and strive to promote inclusiveness within the workplace. The NDC has cultivated a nationwide network of affiliated councils to advance diversity and inclusion by transforming our work places and communities into inclusive environments where individuals are valued for their talents and empowered to reach their fullest potential..
